What it actually does
JSplacement made the greeble-plate look easy: random panels, strips and lines stacked into a height map until it reads as a machined sci-fi hull. Displacement X brought it back as a free web app. Both give you an 8-bit PNG and no way to make the same map twice.
Hou-DisplacementX is a Houdini port of Displacement X, by Yehor Misiats, drawn on the GPU as one OpenCL kernel inside a Copernicus network. The shape rules, ranges and sprite packs are the originalβs. What Houdini adds is a Seed that reproduces the map at any resolution, full-float height, and normal, basecolor and id layers alongside it β named so Houdini Engine for Unreal picks them up as the right texture types.
A second node in the same file delivers the generator as geometry: a heightfield with nothing wired, or a triplanar displacement of whatever you wire in. It is licensed under the GPL, and the asset ships unlocked.
